Good bye 36

I celebrated my 37th birthday today.  It was a normal day.  I went to work, did laundry, made meals, cleaned and ran kids around.  I was a mom, and that is my most favorite thing, so I had a perfect birthday.  Good bye 36, please be kind to me 37. 

Winter Fail

I think this is the most lame winter I can ever remember.  It is so disappointing.  But the kids are "the glass is half full" kind of people and are welcoming spring whether it's January or April. 

Modge Podge Post

January is always a slow blogging month for me.  I don't know what it is, we are busier than ever and we are never home.  That may be it, it is just so busy, that I can't seem to get around to blogging.  Anyway, we are alive and well and keeping ourselves entertained and productive.  This post is going to be all over the place and crazy long, but it's pretty much the whole month of January all in one.  The kids enjoyed watching the Patriots win their way to the Super Bowl .  Owen made sure everyone cheered for the Patriots, which was fine, but  Davis's team also won and will be facing the Patriots in the Super Bowl.  That game won't be so amicable I am sure. 

Ally's friend took her to try Yoga.  She loved it, and of course wants to add Yoga to our busy routine.

Basketball season has been going all month for Rocky Mountain.  They won some and lost some, but Owen is doing really good and his game is improving.

At the elementary school, they do a program for all first grade students called Gus and Gussie.  It is a 10 week program teaching the kids to like themselves, deal with emotions, being a friend and keeping themselves safe.  Ally graduated with perfect attendance and she loved the weekly activities she got to participate in.

This time of year is the only time to buy one of my favorite candies....cherry juju hearts.  I make myself sick by eating the whole bag.

In Physics class, Owen had to make a balloon out of tissue paper.  He has this class 7th period and with basketball games, he misses the class quite a bit so he had to bring the assignment home.  11:00 PM and I finally sent Owen to bed, I was still up till 2:30 finishing the stupid thing.  Many times, I was in tears on the floor because I was so tired and I was so worried I was going to make Owen fail this assignment.  I had nightmares I would be found in the morning rolled up on the floor clutching tissue paper rocking back and forth.  Amazingly the thing flew for over a minute and all is well.

 Ally is still playing indoor soccer.  She is quite the little defender and it's fun watching her learn the skills loving the game so much. 

Davis loves basketball!  He is still playing for The Dawgs.  It is a little tough right now, because he loves the game so much, but not the team.  He still puts all his effort into it though and is a huge part of the team.  Some of the kids on this team really struggle, but Davis is a leader and he encourages his team mates and leads by example.  Which I think is an important lesson to learn.  You can't win them all (by points), but he plays his heart out every week and that is winning too. 

Wrestling is still going on as well.  Again, as a parent it is so awesome to see your kids enjoying something and working so hard to learn and to be a real part of the team.  A couple of weeks ago, Owen took first in a tournament.  He was over the moon excited and he deserved to be for sure!

We didn't have school last Monday, and Davis planned an air soft war with some friends.  It is such a mild winter, and it feels like spring.  The spring fever has already kicked in, and Davis has been pulling out the air soft guns, his shooting guns and bow and arrows and is out back improving his skills in hopes that he draws out for the hunt this fall. 

Math was never my subject in school.  My last quarter senior year, I finally had a 4.0 and that is because I wasn't required to take math that semester.  I remember arguments with my family over them trying to help me with my math homework.  My brain is just not wired that way.  And here I am years later, back in math class.  I go with one of my students and I am bound and determined to figure out some stuff and I'm taking darn good notes this time around.  The teacher probably thinks I'm crazy, I'm more of the student than my actual student. 

Owen and Davis went to watch basketball and have pizza at Chris's house so that left Gator and I to have a girls night.  I took her to Classic to try out her new rollerblades and she had a blast.  She loved it and spent 2 hours skating around and around and around.  She liked the games the DJ played and won the number game twice in a row and won a couple handfuls of tootsie rolls. 

The 19th was National Popcorn Day, the rest of us were busy and didn't celebrate, but Owen and Chris went to a movie and celebrated enough for the rest of us.  Owen can sure down the popcorn.

I finally got a new phone.  With my other camera not working so well, hopefully I can start getting some okay pictures with my phone.  Davis was my guinea pig, here's the very first picture taken.

Still Celebrating

Christmas and New Years may be over with,  but we can still celebrate National Spaghetti day,  I'm just celebrating the fact that Owen made dinner tonight and I didn't have to!!

Davis's Gift

For Christmas, Davis received 3 ski passes to Snow Basin.  He was so excited and used 2 of them this week already.  He loves skiing, and since he's the only one in our family who does, luckily he has Ryan and Chris to take him along with them.  They went on Monday and again today.  I'm going to have to figure out how to get him some more buddy passes, he is going to burn through his Christmas gift sooner than I thought, but it is totally okay and worth it seeing him having such a great time and loving it like he does!

Monday, while Davis was skiing, Owen, Ally and I just couldn't let the fresh snow go to waste, so we bundled up as well and went sledding.  It was hard going without one of my kids, but I told myself he was off having fun also and besides I wanted to check out the hill before we went again yesterday with more people.  The snow was fresh so it was a lot softer than yesterday.  If I had crashed on Monday instead of Wednesday maybe I still wouldn't be so sore on Friday.  Oh well, it is all for the fun with the kiddos right!!

 

The rest of the party

We all made it to midnight last night, much later actually.  We were all tired today.  I didn't get too many more pictures from our party simply just because I didn't want to get my camera out.  I was too lazy.  At midnight, we let off fireworks, the kids love any excuse for a firework show. 

So long 2014!

It's New Years Eve!  2014 is on it's way out, it was a rough year one that I am not too sad to see go.  Lots of good stuff happened and we had fun as always, but it was just hard.  I'm looking forward to a new year and hoping for more fun and family time.  We went sledding this afternoon, I was done after my second time down after a pretty nasty crash, but the kids kept going for hours.  I pretty much had to drag them off the sledding hill.  Thanks Grace, Carlos and Mat & family for joining us!

After sledding, we went to Stewarts for dinner.  I was just boring and made soup, but Ryan had a very fancy contribution to our meal.  I'd never heard of Raclette, but it was sure tasty.  Basically it's melting different cheeses and putting it on bread or veggies or we had some ham too. 

As far as the rest of the evening goes, I will update on that later.  Right now it is 10:30 and we still have a houseful of wild crazy kids running around screaming and still lots of food to eat and fireworks.  The night will go on for awhile still.
