Davis's basketball team participated in a tournament in Pocatello over the weekend. We committed him to going then realized we had numerous other things that was going to make it a challenge to get him there. We are so lucky to have Dave and Sheila close by and always more than willing to help out. So on Friday afternoon, they took Davis up to Pocatello while we waited for Owen to get home from San Diego, Clark attended his reunion, and Gator and I went to her team BBQ/swim party. On Saturday morning, we woke up went up to watch the rest of the games. Owen, was a little restless, he had just completed a 19 hour drive and a week away from home, but he was a great sport to support his brother. He realized in the last 24 hours, he had driven clear across the state of Utah from boarder to boarder. I'm glad it was him and not me. Davis' team did a good job. They won 2 and lost 2 games, but Davis played great. He is new to this CBA team, but it's already his favorite team he's been on and most definitely his favorite coach.

In between games, Owen and Gator went exploring. They came back an hour or so later with a little bit of a history learned. Now I lived in Pocatello for 1 1/2 years and I never knew of this landmark, but from where we were on ISU campus, we saw a hill with some interesting pillars on top. Everyone wondered what they were, so I googled it. Turns out Forbes.com selected Pocatello as one of the top ten "best small cities" in America. Pocatello has been regarded as the "Gate City to the West". Years ago, a funeral home was being demolished and these Greek style columns were offered to the ISU maintenance supervisor. In 1970, after years of collecting dust and snow behind a building, they were permanently placed as a landmark on top of Red Hill overlooking the ISU campus. One pillar had been broken, so a beam was placed across the 3 leaving the one standing alone. This is symbolic of a college student supported by friends and classmates, once done with school they graduate and stand alone ready to face the world with a diploma from ISU.

We went to lunch with Dave and Sheila to Sizzler. They have friends that live in Pocatello, so they met us there. I'm the only one that got the salad bar, so I was teasing the kids I'm the only one that got dessert. The waitress saved the day because she informed us the dessert bar was for everyone. The boys didn't even let her finish talking before they were out of their seats and wreaking havoc on the dessert bar.
We drove in the same car as Dave and Sheila, so we were kinda stuck. The kids wanted to go back and swim and relax, but we didn't want to interrupt them visiting with their friends. They were having a great time chatting, and the kids got a little stir crazy.
When we finally left Sizzler (I'm surprised the kids weren't kicked out), we went back to the hotel and changed for swimming. The kids and I had the pool to ourselves for a couple of hours. It felt a little crowded as more and more hotel guests showed up, and after 3 hours we were hungry and tired, so we went up to the room and relaxed for the rest of the evening.
Attitude showing off her red slurpee tongue.
One of the greatest parts of staying in a hotel is that we usually just order pizza for dinner. We either eat it by the pool, or like this time, we just plopped on the bed and watched a movie.
