Two celebrations in one

Yesterday we had a little celebration for National Dog Day.  It also just so happened to be Cherry Popsicle Day.  Joey loved it, and thought the treat was really just for him. 

First Day

It came.  Crazy as this year has been, we are starting school.  Masks, social distancing, sanitizing, and a whole lot of other rules, but we made it.....at least to the first day.  We don't know when/if we will be shut down again, but for now, we are at school. 
Gator and I left pretty early because her and Sydney wanted one more time around the school to walk their schedules.  7th grade is very nerve racking.  They both did great. 

 Her friend Ethan is one of my students this year.  They are both excited about this. 

 Fired.  I left early and asked Davis for a nice picture.  I thought I'd have better luck leaving the picture responsibility to him instead of making him get out of bed early.  I knew that would be impossible.  Clearly, he wasn't capable of taking his first day of school photo either. 

 Owen isn't at the elementary this year, he moved up to a junior high.  He is now my rival working at Walhquist.  The nerve. 

Happy 20th Owen

I took this picture "last week" as Owen was entering his teenage years, and today he is no longer a teenager.  I thought turning 20 on the 20th in the year 2020 would bring good luck, but it has been a terrible year.  We're still hoping things will turn around and he can finally go to play football at ISU, but I just don't know if his dream of college football will ever happen.  He is taking it in stride though, he really enjoys coaching and he just got a new job at Wahlquist in the special needs unit.  He also just took a job coaching basketball for a club that Davis used to play for.  I do hope he has a great 20th year, because he really deserves it.  I know he is very stressed, but he still smiles and  continues to try to do his best in all that he has on his plate. 

Bear Lake

Carrie, Josh, and Mat went camping in Bear Lake for a few days, Gator went with them on Sunday to camp for the night and I went up yesterday to play for the day and bring Gator home.  I wish we could've stayed the whole time, but with work and volleyball we fit in what we could.  Coming home last night, I probably left a little too late and it was already dark, but we made it and didn't hit the moose that was crossing the canyon road.  Bear Lake was so low, it was amazing how far out we could walk and still touch, and as always the water was so clear.  It has been so hot this year, that the water was  warm compared to what Bear Lake usually is, but it was still refreshing.

I'm going to enjoy every minute of the games we do get to play this year.  Even when we lose, to me it was a great game.  I love seeing Davis play and Owen coach.  I sat there the whole game just so proud of my boys!

 Masks actually come in handy when the refs are making bad calls and the game just isn't going how you'd like.

This and That

We're still plugging along.  Things are getting fired up again with Covid and football and the beginning of a new school year.  I don't follow politics real close, but it is an election year, and I may not follow it, but I can still see the decline in our country and that there are so many things spoke about regarding the Second Coming that are happening and I know it is getting close.  The world is so wicked and so many bad bad things are going on.  I just keep going and doing and my best and praying for my kids, trying to be there for them.  As of now school will be back in session on August 26th.  It is going to look very different and I am very scared of what is going to happen with school and my job.  Football has continued.  We have our first game on Friday.  I am so beyond excited for football season.  This is my time of year, fall, football, cool nights, leaves, the smell, corn fields, everything.  I want to enjoy this fall/football season because day to day, I just don't know when it is all going to be taken away again.  I love football, but I don't love turf.  Whoever invented turf was not a mom or in charge of the family cleaning and laundry.  I've got black rubber bits ALL over the house. 

All summer Gator has been volunteering at a preschool.  She has gone twice a week and helped with the summer camp.  I know she had a great time, and made a couple cute little friends.  She was given a box of cookies as a thankyou this week on the last day.  Yes, she chopped off her hair.  She's always had long hair, but she was done with the red in it and it just wasn't going away, so she cut off about 8 inches.  

This 4 wheeler.....I know he loves it and has fun, but it is so much money and work.  He finally got the part and fixed it and went riding the next day.  The last ride of the day, the thing broke again, and now he is working on saving up to fix it again.  

 A few movie theaters are opening.  There hasn't been a new movie released in over 6 months, but Kaysville theater is showing old movies.  It was fun to just be in a theater again and feel a little normal, and I totally got myself sick on the popcorn. 

We have one very sad clingy dog.  He is going to have a hard time adjusting to us going back to work and school.  We have been with him constantly since March and for a while the only thing to do was going outside with him and hiking and playing.  But even now with football starting and us being gone for that, he is so sad.  

 We don't see a whole lot of Owen anymore.  With football and a girlfriend his time is pretty much taken.  Lately if he isn't in his room watching film or at practice, then him and Kylee are enjoying some down time together at a rodeo. 

It was a very long day with work and football and life, but Davis and I still celebrated National Middle Child Day.  A day for us two to both get a treat and  have a minute together since we're both middle children.  Being a middle child isn't so bad, but it is a lot more fun with another middle child like Davis the celebrate with. 

Covid is ruining our lives

I'm about sick of this stupid Covid crap.  It is ruining every part of our lives.  I just still don't get it.  Yesterday football was cancelled for all of the Big Sky conference.  Meaning ISU.  We don't know how this will affect Owen yet, but I am really bummed today.  This has been a 2 1/2 year trial for Owen between his mission, his knee, and now Covid.  I'm just stressed out.  Davis was feeling sick on Monday when he woke up.  And my mind went straight to Covid.  I had him isolated in his room and in Farmington getting testing ASAP.  I didn't know how dogs are with this virus, so I wouldn't let Joey in his room and it was sad.  After 24 hours we got a negative result and Joey was back in the room, but Davis was so sick of being isolated, he was out of there!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Day

Today was National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day.  I would've just got to Twisted Sugar and got cookies to celebrate, but Gator wanted to make them.  She made these by herself, including clean up.  And she saved me money in the mean time.  

Speaking of being more domestic.....Gator decided she wanted to learn to crochet.  She watched a couple videos, and borrowed a book from Krissy.  I thought she'd start with some simple square rags or something.  She made a little circle sample, then moved right on to this adorable bunny.  She is a crocheting fool now, and has a list of Christmas presents that she is starting on.  It is so cute to see her crocheting so intently.  And I am so proud of her, she wanted to learn a new hobby, so she did.  All by herself.
