Pumpkin guts

Every year we carve pumpkins, and every year Davis hates it.  He'll carve the pumpkin fine, but the guts.....no way.  He entertained himself with the dry ice from the homemade rootbeer while Gator and I cleaned out his pumpkin for him.

Lots of tears

Last night Owen played his last game as a Fremont Silverwolf.  It hit me hard, I hadn't even thought about it until he ran onto the field and played his last snap and it was done.  We were all crying, football is his life and I love watching him play.  Especially tonight, how in the world was he able to play football not even 24 hours after that car accident.  He is crazy sore, but no way he was not going to play with his team one more time.  The whole bus ride home he kept texting me.  He was having flashbacks from the accident, and he just kept asking "how was I able to play tonight?"  He's right, it's a miracle and I'm glad he recognizes this blessing.
His last play, he sent that kid flying!!
One of his best friends.  Jake told Owen he had been avoiding him all night, because he knew he would cry when he saw him.
And equally amazing, Davis was able to play basketball this morning.  He didn't know if he felt well enough to play, but last minute he decided to go.  He is so excited that it is basketball season!  He loves basketball.  His team members felt it was more important to go hunting I guess because they played with 3 players and the coaches 6th grade son.  Another player showed up at half time, but they were exhausted.  But they played amazing.
It was a busy game day.  Gator had a soccer game then changed her shoes and jersey in the car and went and played basketball.  What will I do when my kids are all grown and I don't have all these games to go to?  I'll sit and cry and feel sorry for myself.

Counting our blessings

Last night Owen and Davis went to a haunted house with some friends.  Owen went to this same one last week and Davis had been wanting to go, so they got a few together and went to Tooele for the evening.  Gator and I were watching a movie and Owen had just barely sent me a text saying they were having an awesome time, but they were just leaving to come home.  Not even a minute later, I got another text that made me sick to my stomach.  His text said, we just got slammed by a car mom, it's bad.  I stared at my phone, not knowing what to do.  Owen called me right then and sounded out of breath and just kept saying I'm okay, I 'm okay.  As I was listening to what was going on in the background I felt a little dizzy, but I grabbed my keys and Gator and I headed to Tooele.  I kept talking to Owen until he had to leave to go check on Davis and fill out police reports.  Davis was in a little shock and scaring Owen the way he was acting, but by the time I got there he was fine, just sore.  I looked around and they told me what happened and I couldn't believe they were there right next to me and not in the ambulance or at the hospital.  They had been going 65 mph through a light and a van turned left in front of them hitting right on Owens side.  Davis was right behind him and a friend was in the passenger seat.  The impact pushed them off the road and over a powerbox, knocking out all the power, and down into a ditch.  We stayed around for awhile because we couldn't get to the car because the powerbox was live still and they were waiting for the power company to come out before they could get the car out.  After another hour or so, we were finally able to get some stuff out of the car and we WALKED away.  How, besides a miracle, after that accident did my boys just walk away?  And all they were complaining about was they were hungry.  At midnight I took them to McDonalds, and I would do that every night of my life just because it means they are still here with me to take to McDonalds at midnight.  I prayed the whole way to Tooele and home again, thanking my Heavenly Father I still had my boys with me.  The car will most likely be totaled which is a big bummer.  It is worth alot more to us then it's value.  It was a great car and I had just bought tires for it 2 days earlier.  It was paid off and still ran great and it was Owens first car.  I'm not sure what we will do now about a car for him, we won't be able to replace it with what the insurance will pay for it, but again I don't care.  We will figure all that out.

Some random pictures

With parent teacher conferences always comes the book fair.  Gator is doing good in her classes and at her new school, so she got to pick out a book.  Another dog book, I think she seriously has every dog book ever written.
With his hair, Owen wouldn't fit in the parking garage, good thing he was sitting down in a car and not just walking in.
Gator had a couple movie passes and she invited me to go see Despicable Me 3 with her today.  The movie was so so, but I loved the company.  She liked the movie and hearing her laugh was enough for me.
Davis has been nursing a big headache since his game.  He drugged up and went out all day with us yesterday, but today he needed to lay low and rest.  While Owen was out and Gator had her soccer party, Davis and I wanted to watch a scary movie.  Our idea of scary is different though.  I was thinking a Halloween movie like Monster House or Charlie Brown.  He wanted blood and gore and screaming.  We agreed on an old black and white movie called House on Haunted Hill.  It was dumb, but a good dumb and we both liked it.
Gator's soccer team went to The Pie and then to watch the Weber State womens soccer team play.  Two college soccer games in two days, she was pretty happy about that.
Owen and some friends went to Tooele for a Haunted House.  They said it was awesome, it was a full contact one and Owen had some stories he told me that would have made me pee my pants and roll up in a ball on the ground.

Football is done for Davis.  Time for his body to recover.  Well, until basketball starts I guess.  He really was happy with his decision to play up for Fremont this year.  It was fun to see both of my boys in a Fremont uniform, I'm going to miss going to these games that is for sure.

Fall Break

We've been out of school today.  I almost hate these breaks because they just come and go and we are back at school.  I'd rather have them to look forward to and anticipate.  But either way we had a fun time playing instead of working.  I really do love working for the school and having the same breaks as my kids.  Today we went to the corn maze.  Gator and I actually found the exit this year instead of just coming back out the entrance.  The boys lost each other but both had the same idea in jumping out and scaring Gator.  The slide was fun, Davis tried acting too grown up for it, but gave in and played with Gator and I.  Owen remained firm in the thought that he was just too old to have that kind of fun with his mom and siblings.  Oh well, it was him that missed out.  Owen and Davis were done, and went to the car and I promised to be right behind them, but on our way out Gator found a friend and we just got talking and playing and realized we spent another hour inside while the boys waited in the car.  They had their phones, they were fine.  We had to go to the DMV to replace Owens license.  He lost his wallet and after looking everywhere we decided the sure way to find it would be to replace everything.  I'm sure the wallet will surface in the next couple of days.  Then tonight we went to Lu's soccer game.  It was so exciting to watch her play on this level.  And it was even more exciting to see her score her first college goal!  Before the game, the Utah athletes had a trunk or treat for the kids.  Gator dressed up and played the little games in the parking lot that each team had prepared.  It was pretty disorganized, but the kids didn't care, they got candy!  I loved my day with Owen, Davis, and Gator.  They make me smile and make me feel life is okay.
